Dr. Guiseley, O.D.
Dr.Guiseley has practiced optometry for over 20 years, beginning here in Gray in 1987. He practiced for two years before acquiring the practice in 1989, when it was established as Gray Family Vision Center. Dr. Guiseley received his Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts in May of 1987 after completing externships in Boston and Atlanta, Georgia with an emphasis on diagnosing and treatment of ocular diseases. Dr. Guiseley completed his undergraduate work at the University of New Hampshire. He was born and grew up in Mid-Coast Maine and graduated from Camden-Rockport High School in 1980.
Dr. Guiseley’s scope of practice includes the treatment of glaucoma and other eye diseases and infections. He enjoys the fitting of contact lenses and works with his patients to provide the best visual correction for their individual needs. He is a member of The Maine Optometric Association (MOA), The American Optometric Association (AOA), and charitable programs which include; Vision USA, Infant SEE, and the local Gray-New Gloucester Lions Club. Personally, Dr. Guiseley enjoys golfing, skiing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He resides in Raymond with his wife Mary and their two children. Dr. Cook, O.D.
Dr. Cook is a native of Oriskany, New York which is a small village of about 1,500 people located in Central New York. He set his sights early on becoming an Optometrist, deciding in 7th grade that he was interested in the eyes and wanted to study Optometry. He received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Morrisville and went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1995. He completed his externship at Case Western Reserve Veterans Administrative Hospital in Cleveland, OH where he received extensive training in the treatment and management of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and infectious diseases. Dr. Cook holds a Therapeutic Advanced Glaucoma license, which is the highest level of licensure in Maine, is certified Diplomate, American Board of Optometry and additionally board certified by the American Board of Clinical Optometry.
After school he practiced in Lafayette and Baton Rouge Louisiana as well as Denver, Colorado before moving back East in September 2001. His special interests in Optometry include difficult contact lens fittings as well as the management of glaucoma and macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Maine Optometric Association, American Optometric Association Low Vision Section, National Board of Optometric Examiners, and has served on the board of directors for the Maine Optometric Association. He is a memeber of Volunteer Optometric Services To Humanity (VOSH), has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and participates in charitable optometric programs such as VISION USA and Infant SEE. Personally, he is the proud father of three boys and enjoys skiing, golfing, home improvement projects, and home brewing. He resides in Portland in his 1895-era house with his wife and kids. Dr. Hamilton, O.D.
Originally from Northern Ontario, Dr. John Hamilton completed his Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute where he earned certification as an Ophthalmic Medical Technologist. Dr. Hamilton was employed at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute as a research coordinator prior to obtaining his Doctorate of Optometry and Master of Vision Science from the New England College of Optometry (NECO). He has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at international vision conferences. In addition to his experience at the Eye Institute, Dr. Hamilton provided installation and training services throughout North America and Asia, on behalf of manufacturers of ophthalmic imaging devices.
Dr. Hamilton served as class president throughout his time at NECO. He was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. He was the recipient of numerous scholarships based upon accomplishments in the areas of academics, leadership, and commitment to the field.
Dr. Hamilton’s clinical training provided extensive experience in general and specialty eye care including contact lenses, binocular vision and vision therapy, as well as management of eye disease.
Dr. Hamilton is a member of both the American Optometric Association and Maine Optometric Association. He is also fluent in the French language.
